The council was able to withdraw more than 70,000 commodities representing 600 products, and correct more than 87,000 commodities representing 200 products, as part of the council’s efforts to cooperate with merchants and suppliers to take corrective measures or withdraw products that do not conform to safety requirements. The council’s achievements also included verifying 85,000 processes for legal measurement tools, where the conformity rate increased from 81% in 2012 to 99% in 2021, in addition to verifying the conformity of more than 105,000 products of pre-packaged packages, bringing the conformity rate up from 61% in 2012. to 93% in 2021.
His Excellency Khalaf Al Mazrouei, Executive Director of the Markets and Consumer Services Sector at the Abu Dhabi Quality and Conformity Council, said, on the sidelines of a media briefing at the end of last week, that quality infrastructure is one of the basic requirements for integration into the global economy and strengthening national industries and their competitiveness, noting that the economic vision of the Emirate of Abu Dhabi aims to Establishing a sustainable and diversified economy based on high value-added activities, encouraging private enterprise and investment by individuals, and having a high degree of integration into the global economy.

He explained that the council is working to manage the process of recalling products from the markets and publishing warnings to ensure their effective implementation in the Emirate of Abu Dhabi, following up on incoming reports, allowing consumers to report injuries and accidents resulting from the use of products that do not conform to specifications and technical regulations, and searching for products withdrawn from the emirate’s markets, which helps in strengthening programs Matching and direct interaction with consumers.
Al Mazrouei indicated that the Abu Dhabi Quality and Conformity Council verifies the conformity of products traded in the emirate’s markets through six operational activities related to product safety, including field inspection, smart inspection, conformity programs, cooperation with partners, consumer notifications, corrective actions and product recall. He pointed out that the center has cooperation with the Department of Health through electronic linkage with the Department’s Injuries and Poisoning System, in addition to cooperation with the Department of Urban Planning and Municipalities to control cosmetics traded in the emirate’s markets, as well as cooperation with the World Organization for Product Removal, noting that cooperation with The partners contributed to the verification of products related to injuries received by the Department of Health, the inspection of more than 1,500 facilities and the verification of 6000 commodities of cosmetics, as well as the electronic link with the database of products withdrawn globally. He pointed out that the Council carried out field visits to the relevant commercial establishments to ensure that the traded products meet their mandatory requirements, and cooperated with the Ministry of Industry and Advanced Technology to implement simultaneous campaigns at the state level, pointing at the same time to conducting virtual examinations of samples of products traded in the markets and in the event that Non-compliance with the requirements is examined in accredited laboratories, in addition to this, reports on the safety of products received from consumers through social media sites, the government contact center and other means are verified.

The Council also obtained accreditation as an internationally recognized inspection body in accordance with the international standard “ISO 17020” for metrological verification services.
He referred to obtaining the membership of the Technical Committee for the Management of Certificates in the International Organization for Legal Metrology, which contributed to the knowledge of legal standards issues at the global level, as well as the membership of the Council in the National Committee for Legal Standards and the Secretariat of the Gulf Technical Committee for Legal Metrology, which contributed to the knowledge of legal standards topics at The local and regional level, in addition to the council’s membership in the International Organization for Health and Safety of Consumer Products, which contributed to the knowledge of the safety issues of globally traded products, as well as the council’s membership in the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development, which contributed to finding out the reasons for the globally withdrawn products.
