Abu Dhabi Police, represented by the Special Patrols Department, in cooperation with the Environment Agency – Abu Dhabi and a number of partners within the framework of the Joint Committee for the Protection of the Wild Environment, seized an environmental violation for wild hunting in a sandy area north of Al Khatm in the Emirate of Abu Dhabi.
The joint committee explained that the perpetrators of the violation, five people, were arrested next to their four-wheel drive car in a sandy area, with wild game in their possession after hunting it with a falcon. Special patrols monitored their movements in the area, and they were arrested and the approved measures were taken.
Colonel Pilot Sheikh Zayed bin Hamad Al Nahyan, Chairman of the Joint Committee for the Protection of the Wildlife Environment at the Abu Dhabi Police General Command, stressed the keenness to implement the directives of the wise leadership to pay attention to the preservation of wildlife and natural reserves, pointing to the interest of the Joint Committee and its keenness to enhance joint cooperation in order to achieve its goals within the commitment to protecting the environment. And natural reserves to ensure the sustainability of biological diversity, enhance resettlement programs for threatened wild species of rare animals, and raise the level of environmental awareness about the importance of preserving wild reserves.

The Joint Committee called for the need for everyone to cooperate to enhance the protection of wildlife and work to develop it, warning of the consequences of encroaching on the emirate’s natural wildlife in its various forms, and stressing the importance of preserving biological diversity, which is a unique natural heritage that we cherish in the United Arab Emirates and that we are working to protect. She praised the UAE’s global leadership achievements in environmental work, preserving reserves and increasing their areas, and its obtaining first place in the “Environmental Sustainability Index, which is a global indicator that measures countries’ progress in this field, in addition to its continued successes in the field of preserving endangered species and animal breeding and rehabilitation programs.” Rare.
It is noteworthy that Federal Law No. (24) of 1999 regarding the protection and development of the environment and its amendments prohibit hunting, killing, or capturing birds and wild and marine animals except after obtaining a license from the competent authorities. Law No. (22) of 2005 regarding the regulation of wild hunting in the Emirate also prohibits Abu Dhabi Hunting animals, birds, and reptiles within the emirate, except with a license from the Authority, in its capacity as the competent authority, which has determined the hunting areas, the species licensed for hunting, the hunting seasons, and the tools and equipment used in hunting that are prohibited from being used.
The executive regulations of the aforementioned Law No. (22) of 2005 specify the species that are permitted to be hunted in the emirate and the fees for preserving the species. The regulations permit the hunting of wild animals that are bred in captivity, such as the bustard, the rock curlew, and the desert rabbit, which are located within one of the breeding centers or that have been released in any area.
