The Abu Dhabi Department of Health has announced the development and launch of an information security strategy for the health sector, to be the first institution in the health care sector at the state and regional levels to launch such a strategy that outlines a framework that clarifies and defines the basic principles of a comprehensive and distinguished approach that continues to enhance the health sector’s readiness to deal With cyber risks and address them effectively and safely.
The department explained that the new strategy comes as part of the continuous efforts to enhance and protect the information infrastructure of the health sector to contribute to ensuring an effective and proactive response to the current and future cybersecurity challenges of the health sector in the emirate, as well as creating the digital infrastructure to support the goals of the digital transformation process witnessed by the emirate through Enabling technology, innovation, and employing artificial intelligence in the health sector in the Emirate.
She stated that the strategy is based on six axes, including: cybersecurity governance by strengthening leadership oversight by developing a dedicated framework for this, cybersecurity flexibility by ensuring the ability to respond to and recovering from cyber threats, and cybersecurity capabilities by developing relevant knowledge and capabilities to secure The cyber environment, cyber security partnerships to improve the technology space, enhance cyber security awareness and appropriate management frameworks for related threats, in addition to innovation in the field as a cyber security enabler.
Jamal Muhammad Al Kaabi, Undersecretary of the Department, said: “The strategy applies immediately to all health facilities in the emirate, health care professionals, health insurance companies, service providers, suppliers and entities authorized to access, deal with, process, manage or store patient information within the Emirate of Abu Dhabi. Aligning the cybersecurity initiatives of the health sector in Abu Dhabi with the UAE’s national cybersecurity initiatives.”
