People who worked during former President George W. Bush’s administration have rejected Trump’s candidacy for the party
A group of 236 former officials from the Republican administrations of former President George W. Bush, former Senator John McCain and Senator Mitt Romney released a statement on Tuesday (Aug. 27, 2024) letter in support of the campaign of the Vice President of the United States, Kamala Harris (Democratic Party).
“We gather today, joined by new George H.W. Bush alumni, to reinforce our 2020 statements and, for the first time, declare together that we will vote for Vice President Kamala Harris and Governor Tim Walz in November.”
Despite having worked for the Republican Party, they chose to oppose former President Donald Trump (Republican Party), who is running for president for the party. They stated that a new Trump term would be “unsustainable”.
“In these statements we state the plain truth, each predicting that 4 more years of a Trump presidency would irreparably damage our beloved democracy.”says the document.
Despite ideological differences with Kamala, the letter argues that the Republican’s return to the White House would promote dangerous goals. It accuses the former president of wanting to implement Project 2025 – a collection of proposals, criticized by Democrats, for a possible government transition.
Among the main goals of Project 2025 are the expansion of walls on the border with Mexico, the banning of transgender women from sports competitions and the deportation of illegal immigrants.

Bush, McCain and Romney Students’ Statement in Support of Harris
“Four years ago, alumni of President George W. Bush, the late Senator John McCain, and then-Governor Mitt Romney came together to warn Republicans about the dangers of re-electing President Trump, saying it would be a disaster for our nation. In those statements, we spoke the unvarnished truth, predicting that four more years of a Trump presidency would cause irreparable damage to our beloved democracy.
“We made these announcements months before lies about a stolen election became commonplace and 6 months before Trump incited an insurrection, emboldening a mob of resentful, sycophantic losers as they tried to use force to reverse the will of the American people.
“Today, we gather again, joined by new George H.W. Bush alumni, to reinforce our 2020 statements and, for the first time, jointly declare that we will vote for Vice President Kamala Harris and Governor Tim Walz this November.
“Of course, we have a number of honest ideological disagreements with Vice President Harris and Governor Walz. That is to be expected. However, the alternative is simply untenable.
“At home, another 4 years of Donald Trump’s chaotic leadership, this time focused on advancing the dangerous goals of Project 2025, will harm real, everyday people and undermine our sacred institutions.
“Abroad, democratic movements will be irreparably threatened as Trump and his acolyte JD Vance bow to dictators like Vladimir Putin, turning their backs on our allies.
“We can’t let that happen.
“We now know, thanks to exit polls and voter data, that it was moderate Republicans and conservative independents in key states who ultimately delivered the presidency to Joe Biden—honest, hard-working Americans in Wisconsin, Michigan, Pennsylvania, Georgia, Arizona and beyond who put country above party.
“We are wholeheartedly calling on these friends, colleagues, neighbors and family members to take a bold stand once again, to vote for leaders who will seek consensus, not chaos; who will work to unite, not divide; who will make our country and our children proud.
“Those leaders are Vice President Kamala Harris and Governor Tim Walz.”
