Abortion In Germany, the abortion law inherited from Hitler was abolished

Fines had been imposed under the law in recent years.

German parliament has decided to repeal a Nazi-era law restricting abortion reporting, the AFP news agency reported.

The Abortion Act prohibited the promotion or presentation of abortion. Violation of the law could result in up to two years in prison or fines.

German Minister of Justice Marco Buschmann (FDP) says today’s decision to repeal the law “it was high time” to be made. According to her, it is “absurd” and “out of date” that doctors ’opportunities to report abortion are limited, even though“ every troll and conspiracy theorist ”has been allowed to share their thoughts on abortion.

The law was enacted shortly after Adolf Hitler rose to power.

In Germany fines have been imposed under the 1933 law in recent years. The court has imposed fines on doctors who have disseminated information about abortions on the internet.

In some cases, fines have already been imposed on the basis of a doctor’s website saying that a gynecologist was performing an abortion.

In 2019, two gynecologists both received fines of 2,000 euros for reporting an abortion. The law went public in 2017 when the general practitioner Kristina Hänel received fines of 6,000 euros. With the fines, he became the lead figure in the anti-law movement.

Behind most complaints to the courts have been groups of opponents of abortion born on the internet. Fearing fines and charges, many German clinics have removed abortion information from their websites.

German the ruling Liberal Party FDP, the Social Democrats and the Greens had promised to abolish the law when they formed a government together.

In Germany, about 100,000 abortions are performed each year, and the number has declined in recent years. Abortion is still a silent topic in the country, according to gynecologists, and obtaining an abortion can be difficult for families.
