His Excellency Dr. Abdul Rahman bin Abdul Mannan Al Awar, Minister of Human Resources and Emiratisation, Acting Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research, appreciated the announcement by His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, President of the State, “may God protect him”, to mark the twenty-eighth of February of each year as “Emirati Education Day”, noting that His Highness’s directives reflect the belief of the country’s wise leadership in the importance of education and its pivotal role in advancing comprehensive and sustainable development through building, qualifying, empowering people and investing in their capabilities and potential.
His Excellency said that choosing this date confirms the UAE’s keenness to link the nobility and authenticity of the past with the ambitions and unlimited horizons of the future, as this historic day coincides with the sponsorship and presence of the founding father, the late Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan, “may God rest his soul,” for the graduation ceremony of the class. The first for the United Arab Emirates University in 1982, a day that represented a major milestone in the education process to become a fundamental pillar of progress, leadership and prosperity in the country.
He added that building the future and achieving national ambitions and visions requires that education be comprehensive and proactive, anticipating the requirements of the future labor market, establishing a culture of scientific research, and qualifying human cadres capable of accessing the knowledge-based economy, and continuing and enhancing the process of comprehensive and sustainable development for the coming years and decades, pointing out that This historic announcement represents a message to all segments of society that education will remain a locomotive that drives scientific progress, economic success, and societal growth.
