Packers quarterback Rodgers defends no vaccination
Los Angeles Aaron Rodgers of the Green Bay Packers of the US Football League NFL has resisted criticism for not yet being vaccinated against the coronavirus. The star quarterback claims that he was immunized using an alternative method.
“I’m not a vaccine opponent. I’m a critical mind,” said the 37-year-old on the Pat McAfee Show: “I firmly believe in physical autonomy and that you can make decisions about your body.”
Rodgers had tested positive for the coronavirus earlier this week. It was subsequently revealed that the preseason MVP has not yet been vaccinated. The quarterback was then heavily criticized because Rodgers had said in August when asked about his vaccination status that he was “immunized”.
Rodgers now wants to correct the “blatant lies that are being spread about me.” He had “not lied in the first press conference. At that time there was a witch hunt in the entire league.” Therefore, he wanted to say from the start that he was “immunized”. “That wasn’t a ruse or a lie – it was the truth,” Rodgers said.
If questioned further, the 2010 Super Bowl champion said, he would have stated that he was looking for an “alternative treatment” to the widely used vaccines. Rodgers doesn’t want to have to “bow to a waking culture or a crazy group of individuals who say you have to do something.”
Rodgers said he couldn’t take either Pfizer’s or Moderna’s mRNA vaccine because they both contain an ingredient he’s allergic to. He then considered the Johnson & Johnson vaccine, but decided against it.
Instead, Rodgers “spoke to medical professionals and found that there was an immunization protocol that I could use to protect myself and my teammates, and it was a long-term protocol that lasted several months.” Rodgers had informed the NFL that he would alternatively want to immunize himself and be classified as a vaccinated player. The league rejected the application.
The NFL has not made vaccination compulsory for players this season, but instead introduced restrictions on players who do not want to be vaccinated. Vaccinated players who test positive for Corona can return to the team after two negative tests 24 hours apart, while non-vaccinated players must be isolated for ten days before they can play again.
