Woman trapped between rocks for seven hours after slipping headlong into three-metre crack while trying to get his phone back in Australia, specifically in the New South Wales region.
Matilda Campbell, 20, was walking through the Hunter Valley with her friends on Saturday, October 12, until she slipped her phone and ended up in the crevasse. Campbell did not think twice and when trying to reach the device she slipped on her head and got stuck. Her friends spent an hour trying to free her before they called for help, according to the state health agency, NSW Ambulance.
“Multidisciplinary” rescue
The operation to free her from the situation, described by the NSW Ambulance as “strange”, It involved a team of “multidisciplinary” emergency workers. First, they had to remove several heavy rocks to create a safe access point. Then, “with both feet now accessible,” the workers helped Campbell climb his feet up a “sharp S-shaped curve,” which took them an hour.
A special winch was used to move the two rocks that were holding him, weighing 500 kg each. A hardwood frame was also built to “ensure stability” during the rescue. “In my 10 years as a rescue paramedic, I have never been in a situation like this, It was a unique rescue job», said this Monday Peter Watts, a specialized rescue paramedic. “It was challenging, but incredibly rewarding.”
Campbell was eventually released with only a couple of minor scratches and bruises. However, they couldn’t get their phone backdetailed the NSW Ambulance.
“I won’t be exploring rocks again for a while!”
For her part, Campbell once recovered, acknowledged on social media that “with complete certainty, I can say that I am the most accident-prone person who has ever existed. I’m fine, I just have some injuries that I’m recovering from. “I won’t be exploring rocks again for a while!” he exclaimed.
In turn, he had words of gratitude for all the people involved in his rescue. «I wanted to give the greatest recognition to my friends and the team that worked so hard to get me out. “I’m eternally grateful because otherwise I probably wouldn’t be here today.”
