A warehouse with sulfur caught fire after the militants of the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU) shelled the chemical plant of the Stirol plant in Gorlovka (DPR). This was announced on Wednesday, December 7, by the mayor of the city Ivan Prikhodko in his Telegram channel.
According to him, there is no threat to the life and health of residents, but a pungent smell can spread. In this regard, he urged residents of Gorlovka to close the windows.
Prikhodko also stressed that rescuers are already on the scene.
Stirol is a key chemical industry enterprise in the Donbass. For a long time, the plant was one of the largest producers of mineral fertilizers in Europe and supplied to the market up to 3% of world exports of ammonia and other chemicals, compounds and products from them. The company was forced to stop working due to hostilities.
The day before, during the shelling of Stirol by Ukrainian troops, the equipment of the ammonia shop was damaged.
Ukrainian militants have been conducting massive shelling of the territory of the DPR for several days in a row. Under attack, in particular, the central regions of Donetsk, Gorlovka, as well as other settlements.
The special military operation to protect the Donbass, the beginning of which Russian President Vladimir Putin announced on February 24, continues. The decision to hold it was made against the backdrop of the aggravated situation in the region due to increased shelling by Ukrainian troops.
