Consternation in Sangonera la Verde for the tragic accident of Esteban BS and a companion in a pool of the Trevélez River
Sangonera la Verde has received the death of one of its best-known neighbors, the 49-year-old veterinarian Esteban BS, as a blow. The body of him and that of a companion, a native of Alicante and about 40 years old, were located yesterday by the Civil Guard in a pool of the Trevélez river, in Granada, according to sources from the Armed Institute informed the newspaper ‘Ideal’. The first investigations suggest that they died while practicing canyoning, although the details of how the accident could have occurred did not come out.
“The family is broken with pain, and in the town we are all dismayed,” Juan Jiménez, villager of Sangonera la Verde and Esteban’s schoolmate, told LA TRUTH last night, who confirmed the sad news “He was very loved in the village . He grew up in a humble family and had built a brilliant professional career ». Esteban BS, who now lived in Aljucer, had a veterinary clinic in El Palmar, but he was also called from outside the Region because he was a reference specialist in general surgery, traumatology and neurology.
The Civil Guard received notice that the couple had not returned from the Trevélez river ravine, one of the most dangerous in the province, during the night of last Sunday, so their search was activated early yesterday. The bodies were located around 11:00 a.m. A helicopter from the Granada Civil Guard Air Unit and the Granada Mountain Rescue and Intervention Group participated in the recovery of the bodies. Apparently, she was a canyoneer with a high technical level.
There are already eight lovers of canyoning who have lost their lives in this same place on the Trevélez River. The previous ones had been a father and his son on June 21, 2019. The descent in this place entails a “potentially high” risk, as they remember from the Civil Guard, since there are obligatory steps in which the force of the water can drag the athletes. It so happens that as a result of the double death of a father and his son, the Civil Guard’s Mountain Rescue and Intervention Group installed various anchors “of the parabolt type” in different locations of the section of the river included “between the Puente de Palos about 300 meters downstream. It was done “in order to be able to safely face possible rescue interventions”, as reported on the website of the Andalusian Mountaineering Federation.
