Mourning in the world of cinema: the actor of “Marriage Italian Style” was 89 years old
The world of Italian cinema and theatre mourns the passing of Aldo Puglisidied at the age of 89. The actor, born on April 12, 1935 in Catania, passed away on July 19 at the hospital in his hometown, following pulmonary complications due to Covid infection. The funeral will be held on Tuesday, July 23 at 9:30 am in Piazza Santa Maria di Gesù in the Sicilian province.
Aldo Puglisi was the son of an artist, with both parents actors, and made his debut in the world of cinema in the 60s, leaving an indelible mark on the history of Italian cinema. His most famous role is that of Peppino in Seduced and abandoned by Pietro Germi, where he played the young student who lusts after the sister of his fiancée, played by Stefania Sandrelli. Germi also wanted him in Ladies and Gentlemenfilm winner of the Grand Prix at the 19th Cannes Film Festival, ex aequo with A man, a woman by Claude Lelouch.
Puglisi will remain unforgettable in the role of Alfredo in Italian style wedding by Vittorio De Sica, alongside Marcello Mastroianni and Sophia Loren. His character, a humble servant hopelessly in love with Loren, has remained etched in the memory of viewers.
Puglisi’s career has been enriched by collaborations with some of the greatest Italian directors. He was the protagonist of The girl with the gun Of Mario Monicelli, alongside Monica Vitti, and in We want the colonels. Among the directors he has worked with, the following stand out: Pier Paolo Pasolini in Love and AngerRenato Castellani in 3 nights of loveBruno Corbucci, Pasquale Festa Campanile, Lucio Fulci and Lina Wertmüller. One of his last film appearances was in State Secrets Of Paolo Welcomei in 2003.
Despite his cinematic success, Puglisi has never abandoned his first love: the theater. With a theatrical career spanning over forty years, he has participated in numerous productions, including The courage of a Neapolitan firefighter by Eduardo Scarpetta, directed by and starring Carlo Cecchi. He also acted in The Madwoman of Chaillot by Jean Giraudoux, The bell cap by Luigi Pirandello with Renato Campese, The innkeeper by Carlo Goldoni and Cyrano de Bergerac by Edmond Rostand with Pino Micol.
