Of the fighters of mixed martial arts It has always been said that many do not know how to stop in time. Without a doubt, it is a complicated path to decide to step aside when you have spent a lifetime battling in the octagon. But there is another curiosity: some of them retire and, for whatever reason, end up deciding that they want to compete again.
We have seen it with Conor McGregor or with Henry Cejudo and now it is the case of Donald ‘Cowboy’ Cerrone, who this Tuesday announced that he is leaving retirement to return at the age of 41 to the most famous octagon in the world, with a very clear objective: to add 50 fights within the matrix Zuffa, that is, both in its UFC and WEC stages (this promoter ended up absorbed by the former).
Until now, Cerrone, whose biggest thorn is not being able to be champion of the largest MMA league in the worldhas had 48 fights since 2007, until July 2022, at which time he decided to announce his retirement. He had six consecutive stumbles. “I want to come back and get two more fights,” said the ‘Cowboy’, in a video published on his Instagram account. “The number 50 has been sitting in my mind for a while,” he added.
In addition to “pursuing greatness”, something that he has certainly achieved is the favor of the fans. In his message, Cerrone noted that he also wants to score the most wins in UFC history, the most finishes and the most bonuses of the night.
