After the enormous success of “Taxista ra ra”, Ephraim Aguilar premiere “A thousand trades” in 2001, a series with which he sought to repeat a reliable formula, in which Adolf Chuiman had a leading role, for a plot that sought to portray Peruvian society in the most real way possible, added to witty comedy scenes. After its first release on Panamericana TV, this production was a real boom.
In fact, he is considered one of the greatest phenomena of the local small screen of that time. The public supported it, which allowed more seasons to develop. “1000 trades” was at the top; however, a big hit on the channel would end up ending her popularity and burying her in oblivion.

From a mountain of success to an inglorious abyss
In its first two years of broadcasting, everything was going from strength to strength. The audience loved the characters and the rating attested to the warmth of the people, but by 2003, the panorama was distorted, as several of the protagonists resigned and decided to migrate to other channels.
This gave rise to secondary roles increasing their time on screen, in order to ‘fill gaps’. With this, important casualties had to be justified, which the fans were not necessarily completely convinced of. The final blow came with legal problems that Panamericana Televisión had to face.
In less than the crowing of a rooster and without prior notice, “A thousand trades” he had to stop his transmissions for more than 4 months. This, obviously, ended up further disrupting its puny cast of actors and actresses.

What happened to the characters of “A thousand trades”?
After the brief period that was off the air, the iconic Peruvian series resumed its history. Although it was no longer the same, the script had to be adapted to cover the blank spaces left by some of its remembered stars.
This is how, for example, it was said that Richard Parodi went to the United States to move permanently and left Cecilia here. For her part, from ‘Memo’ it was argued that, after a strong fight with her father, she decided to earn a living in Japan. Meanwhile, Eva left the neighborhood to live in Trujillo, among other changes that undermined the plot.
At that time, Aguilar did not see the point in continuing with the certain death of what was once a gold mine, for which he decided to leave everything in the hands of Chuiman, resign and start a new TV boom at the time: “ This is life”, one of the first steps for his long and well-known relationship with América Televisión.

An end, which was not an end, but marked the end
No, you are not reading wrong. The closing of “A thousand trades” was so convoluted, because, despite the fact that it was decided to give it a conclusion, the fiction did not have an end point at all. They simply showed us a scene in which Renato wanted to launch himself into Congress, but the viewers were unable to find out what happened next, since this series ended its broadcasts in May 2004, in oblivion and with just a few rating points.
Even so, a farewell was planned to be recorded. “I don’t feel like putting my hand into something I’m not in anymore. But I agree with Adolfo Chuiman in doing a two-hour special. Everything depends on a good script (…). If the administration had not changed in Panamericana, we would still be there,” said Efraín Aguilar in June of that year.

These statements were supported by some of the famous stars of the program, who showed their annoyance after leaving the show.
“Many weeks have passed since the cancellation, things have dragged on. What ending can they give you? Personally, I have already closed that book, ”said Mónica Torres (Norma) at that time.
“Every series deserves an end and not be abruptly lifted. But, first, they must pay the cast”, said Lucho Cáceres (‘Quique’).
Although little more than two decades have passed, fans continue to remember “Mil oficios” with appreciation and some believe that it was the best series that has premiered on national television, as it portrayed the impetus of Peruvians to get ahead even in the most austere situations. Too bad it ended the way it did.
