CIUDAD REAL.- Around a thousand residents of the Ciudad Real municipality of Malagón, according to the Civil Guard, have taken to the streets this Sunday to ask for justice for the death of Víctor Manuelthe man who died on Saturday, November 23 after a fight in which a local young man was involved, who was arrested and released with charges.
The demonstration, which took place without incident, brought the residents of Malagón onto the streets to ask that episodes like those experienced last weekend not occur again in this municipality of just under 8,000 inhabitants.
Under the slogan ‘Never Again’, the protesters have gathered on Ancha Street, where the alleged fight between two people took place that ended with the death of one of them, Víctor Manuel.
The participants carried a large banner that read ‘We are all Víctor Manuel’ and ‘Justice for Víctor Manuel’. Behind them, some neighbors have carried signs with slogans such as ‘We only ask for justice’, ‘Yesterday it was him, today it could be any of us’, ‘The truth only has one path. Help discover it’ or ‘I don’t want to feel brave when I go out. Stop Violence’.
During the journey, the protesters made several stops, in each of which they observed a minute of silence.
REJECTION OF VIOLENCE
The mayor of Malagón, Luis Carlos Segura, in statements to the media at the beginning of the demonstration, acknowledged that today is “a very complicated day” for his people.
Segura commented that he wanted to be in this call to support the family of the deceased and show that Malagón “is a town that does not want violence” and that “today we are all Víctor Manuel.”
For the municipal councilor, a day like this is “important” to “strongly claim” that Malagón is a town that wants to “live in peace” and that events like those of last Saturday “do not happen again.”
The mayor has highlighted that Malagón is a municipality “of good, friendly people” that opens its doors “to everyone” and has called to “definitely eradicate violence.”
CALL FOR CITIZEN COLLABORATION
For his part, the brother of the deceased, Sergio Solera, has encouraged anyone who saw something on the day of the event to collaborate with justice and has recalled that there are means and tools “so that they do not know who they are.”
The victim’s brother has requested that possible witnesses testify “what happened” that night“to prevent that man – in reference to the accused – from being able to defend himself with any lies.” “We citizens are here to help each other and that is what the family wants,” he insisted.
Solera has assured that this demonstration must also serve “to shout out loud that what we want is for there to be no more violence in Malagón” and “for this to stop, that violent people who are not civil are not in our town.”
For his part, Jhon Martín, Víctor Manuel’s first cousin, has asked for “respect for the family” and that measures be taken to avoid having to live with the person who is being investigated for the facts. “The situation for all of us is very hard,” he stressed.
Martín has also indicated that the family has no knowledge of how the investigation is progressing and, until now, he has said, “we only know that he testified and that he punched him.”
The cousin of the deceased has added that the person under investigation has at no time contacted the family to ask for forgiveness.
The event that ended the life of Víctor Manuel took place on Saturday, November 23 at around 3:51 a.m. next to a bar on Ancha Street, where, according to the Government Delegation in Castilla-La Mancha, aa fight in which the victim ended up with a head injuryto.
A basic life support ambulance was transported to this place and took the injured man to the Malagón health center, where the health workers were unable to save his life.
That same night, a 21-year-old young man, also a resident of Malagón, was arrested, who after testifying before the Court of First Instance and Instruction number 3 of Ciudad Real was provisionally released with the obligation to appear before the Court on the 1st and 15th of each month as a precautionary measure.
According to the Court, he is provisionally investigated as the alleged perpetrator of the crime of reckless homicide.
