This strange incident turned into a “trend” on social media platforms in Egypt, amid a large number of sarcastic comments about the misfortune of the “unhappy thief”, whose “stealing a phone” made him famous.

Media Honor Code
For her part, Assistant Professor at the Faculty of Media at Cairo University, Suhair Othman, says that the incident of the journalist’s phone being stolen during a “live broadcast” is strange, and it can be classified under the funny news item, even though it involves a crime.
And Suhair Othman added to “Sky News Arabia”: “Although the person who appeared in the video committed a disgraceful act, the “Media Code of Honor” prevents publishing his image and highlighting it.”
And she added, “It would have been better to take legal measures against this person, especially since there are video materials that will help the competent authorities to reach him, instead of publishing his picture and re-publishing the video of the incident again.”
Othman concludes her interview with “Sky News Arabia”: “In the end, it is a strange and funny incident, but there are professional standards that everyone must adhere to, because they directly affect the behavior of society.”
