Montrealers who saw a huge black circle floating in the city’s sky last Thursday, 14, witnessed a rather rare pollution phenomenon…that would be related to an explosion in a TV series.
A reader transmitted to the local newspaper an impressive image of the event that took place on Thursday at around 1 pm, near Ponte Vitória. In the photo, we see a black donut-shaped ring that floats less than 300 meters from the ground and is made up of several small particles.

According to him, it is dust or fine particles of combustion residues. “It is true that this is a source of pollution resulting from human activity”, he specifies. In more than 30 years of career, meteorologist Gilles Brien also admits that he has never seen such a phenomenon in the Montreal sky.
“It sure comes from the ground because it’s pretty low,” he said. We see something quite curious here. “The event appears to have caused confusion even among experts, who were not entirely wrong.

“We made a blast for a scene from the American series The End is Nye that created a black circle in the sky”, confirms to the Journal a person working on this footage at the MELS studios of the Old Port of Montreal, and who preferred to remain anonymous.
And the program to be broadcast on the NBC network will “ironically” address the consequences of human activity on the environment, she said.
“The particles were certainly hotter than their external environment and therefore rose to the sky. With this show, a circular movement that takes the shape of a donut is created”, explains Mr. Parent. He adds that winds of just 7 km/h on Thursday prevented the particles from being swept away by storms.

“Personally, I’ve never seen this before,” says Alexandre Parent, a meteorologist at Environment Canada. According to him, it is dust or fine particles of combustion residues.
