From the uphill races, to the auction. The path that this special is taking Ferrari Dino GT4 stops on Bonhams, the auction house that will sell it to the highest bidder. We are talking about the coupé that the Maranello car manufacturer produced for six years from 1974 to 1980, and which had the task of replacing the Dino 246. As mentioned, the one put up for auction is a special example of the Dino GT4, being equipped with some specifications. that make it different from all the others, one above all two Garrett T25 turbochargers which propel the 3.0-liter V8 engine.
This is the Ferrari that excelled in the world of uphill racing: it was 1993 when this special Prancing Horse coupe triumphed in the championship. RAC MSA Hillclimb Leaders, to then set the class record in many British “climbs” over the following years. In addition to the aforementioned turbochargers, the other changes made to this Dino GT4 include a light bodywork, racing seat belts and OMP fire extinguishers, all specifications that still allow the Maranello coupe to legally circulate on the road. Pushing the Ferrari Dino GT4, which among other things used an elongated version of the tubular chassis of the 246 GT, was a transversely mounted 3.0-liter V8, equipped with two valves per cylinder and four Weber 40 DCNF carburettors, capable of delivering a total power of 255 hp.
Changes to the original version of the Ferrari coupe were applied by Tony Lambert in the 90’s. In February of this year, specialist Bob Houghton put the car back into service, fitting new seats, overhauling the engine, recalibrating the shock absorbers and installing new brake pads and new tires. As mentioned, this special Ferrari Dino GT4 is currently up for auction The Market by Bonhams, with the highest bid which should be between 40,000 and 65,000 euros.
