Russian travel blogger Marina Ershova, who is currently traveling around the USA and Canada, came to visit her compatriots and shared her impressions. She published her story on her personal blog on the platform “Zen”.
“If you ever go to visit Russians living abroad, be prepared for a real culture shock – in a good way, of course. Do you think this will just be a friendly visit? Not at all. It’s more like a holiday, a feast and a bit of a psychological therapy session all rolled into one,” the Russian woman described her experience with these phrases.

The author of the publication noted that Russians abroad greet guests like family: with sincere smiles and friendly hugs. Plus they offer a lot of food.
“The word “hungry” is like an insult for Russians. The table is bursting with familiar, favorite dishes from childhood: salads with mayonnaise, herring under a fur coat, dumplings, pancakes with different fillings – whatever your heart desires. Familiar products like buckwheat or sour cream – even if they had to be transported from another city – will definitely end up on the table,” noted Ershova.
The traveler added that Russians abroad always find a common language, as if they had lived together all their lives. They love to have frank conversations about life, their homeland, the fate of the world and how they live in a new place for them.
“Russians abroad cling to the company of their compatriots, as if to a lifeline in the ocean of a foreign culture. They won’t let you go until you feel like you’ve become part of their little Russian oasis,” the author concluded.
Earlier, the same travel blogger visited Alaska and revealed the true attitude of local compatriots towards Russia. According to her, they enjoy all the benefits of American life and do not think about returning.
