A Russian travel blogger visited Tajikistan and during the trip he was surprised by one local feature. He shared his story on his personal blog called TravelManiac on the Zen platform.
According to the author of the publication, it is dangerous to walk with a beard in this Central Asian country. “When I asked my local Tajik guide, I was surprised to learn that with all the “bearded” traditions, in recent decades men really cannot wear facial hair!” — the Russian described his experience with these phrases.

He explained that the fight against beards began almost immediately after the end of the 1992-1997 civil war in Tajikistan, during which government troops were confronted by radical opposition groups, often based in neighboring Afghanistan.
“And although more than two decades have passed since those events, the authorities today still see a significant danger to the country from radical Islamists. And among the ways to counter the proliferation of those who support such views, there are a number of prohibitions,” said the blogger.
The Russian added that the ban on beards in the country is unofficial, but despite this, sometimes police raids take place and men who violate it are detained.
“You still see bearded men on the streets in Tajikistan. True, as a rule, these are elderly people,” the traveler concluded.
Earlier, the same travel blogger had lunch at a roadside cafe in Tajikistan and described it with the phrase “a real oasis.” The Russian admired the “fantastic” taste of local dishes.
