Singer Marília Mendonça, who died yesterday, aged 26, in an air disaster aboard a small plane in Caratinga, in the interior of Minas Gerais, left a relevant legacy for female representation in the country music genre, in addition to her small son Léo , just under 2 years.
Goiana from Cristianópolis, Marília began her musical career as a composer, writing hits for duos such as Henrique & Juliano, João Neto & Frederico, Matheus & Kauan and Jorge and Matheus, in addition to singers Wesley Safadão and Cristiano Araújo, also prematurely killed in a car accident occurred in 2015.
It was only in 2014, after playing several songs such as Up to You Return, Cuida Bem Dela and É com Ela que Eu Somos, in the voice of other artists, that Marília Mendonça launched herself as a solo singer. In 2015, the singer emerged with the success Infiel, one of the most played songs on Brazilian radio and which has more than an authorial aspect, something familiar. “My aunt was married for many years and suddenly found out that her husband was cheating on her. Except that in addition to cheating on her, he got a child out of wedlock. And then, I got really angry, I wrote the song and went to show it to my aunt. But it didn’t do any good, she’s still with him today,” he told Tatá Werneck in an interview.
To justify the suffering of her compositions – which the singer said were more than 300 in 2017 alone -, the singer claimed in interviews of her own experiences, such as a relationship she had when she was still very young. “Everything in my life was precocious, my first horn was when I was 12 years old,” he said on Multishow’s Lady Night program. “I used to date by hand, but I was dating an older boy, and as I liked him, my mother said, you can date.”
If her lyrics, even those written for male voices, had already shown signs of a more feminine posture in the sertanejo, it was in 2016, with Agora É Que São Elas, a partnership between Marília Mendonça and Maiara & Maraisa, that she established herself as one of the main female voices of the style. The trio would continue releasing songs together until recently.

After that, Marília came to figure, in 2019, as the most listened to Brazilian artist in a YouTube ranking, and the 13th in the world. That same year, Marília won the Latin Grammy for Best Sertaneja Music Album for Todos os Cantos, one of the main awards of her career.
In this year of 2021, the singer had already released Nosso Amor Envelheceu, her most recent solo album. On the day of the accident, Marília had debuted the song Fã Clube, in partnership with Maiara & Maraisa.
