The fear of vaccination is irrational – people are afraid to be vaccinated against the coronavirus from not understanding the consequences. Gurgen Khachaturyan, a psychotherapist of the SberZdorovye online medical service, gave advice to anxious people in a conversation with Lenta.ru.
The specialist explained that there is a lot of false and frightening information on the Internet, and it is difficult to understand the veracity of which without special education. Some of the arguments against vaccination sound absurd, he said.
“But the fact is that fear causes violent emotions, so it is irrational and often lacks any evidence base. In this regard, it is quite difficult to influence him, but you can help yourself to make a rational, not emotional decision, ”Khachaturyan said.
The doctor named ways to deal with irrational fear. According to him, first of all, it is necessary to limit the flow of information noise, which only increases anxiety, and to focus on authoritative research – the argument should be made only on the basis of proven facts.
The second way is to study the historical experience of combating other diseases. “A large number of terrible diseases such as poliomyelitis, smallpox, cholera, tetanus and others have been defeated thanks to vaccination. This is a method that has been tested for centuries, ”Khachaturian explained.
In the presence of chronic diseases that may instill fears before vaccination, it is worth consulting a doctor. Khachaturian added that if doubts and anxiety still have not disappeared anywhere, but there is an understanding that this is an unsupported fear, it is worth contacting a psychotherapist.
Earlier, general practitioner Alexander Dolenko explained why some Russians may lack antibodies after vaccination. According to him, there is no such thing as few or not enough antibodies, but he admitted that they may not be produced. This may be due to the individual characteristics of the body and the immune system at a certain point.
