A DualSense controller for PlayStation 5 was recently used to run a surgery 6,000 miles away.
As reported by Fox, surgeons from Zurich, Switzerlandthey managed to use a PS5 controller to conduct an endoscopy on a pig residing in Hong Kong.
The details of the remote surgical operation
Those present in Zurich were able to watch the operation on a live video and use the PlayStation controller on hand to guide the endoscope. A version of this operation saw surgeons use a PlayStation Move controller for PS3while others were carried out with the PS5’s DualSense. As for the reason for using a PlayStation controller, it is said that it allows surgeons “more precise navigation”, especially when dealing with complex movements.
Probably the biggest problem with performing surgery this way is that of take latency into account. Because the Swiss surgeons were so far away from where the surgery was taking place, the test had to keep latency below 300 milliseconds. In fact, it is explained that this response time is equal to what would be expected in a traditional surgery and allows rapid changes to be made if necessary.
In the future, it seems that this system may become a routine activity in the medical field. However, there are still numerous obstacles to face with procedures of this type and it does not seem that we have yet reached the point of being able to perform them on a human patient.
Perhaps to get better performance they should use the new Fortnite DualSense controller, now on pre-order.
