The resignation came after Anderson, of the Social Democrats, failed to pass the budget bill, and the Green Party withdrew from the coalition government.
Anderson told reporters: “There is a constitutional convention that any coalition government should resign if a party withdraws from it,” and stressed: “I do not want to head a government whose legitimacy is challenged.”
And Anderson’s government was in a minority, consisting of only two parties, the Social Democratic Party and the Green Party.
Andersen told Parliament Speaker Andreas Norlin that she was still interested in leading a one-party government, the Social Democrats.
“You have to try again,” she added.
