A post that has accused Sid Meier’s Civilization VII of bowing to woke culture it went viral, so much so that it had many more views than the original post to which it is linked. But what happened? What would the accusation arise from? In what sense would Firaxis have folded? It all comes from a piece of news relating to the game, linked to one of the civilizations represented.
As you know, the Civilization series has always required you to take control of a civilization in pre-historic times to bring it up to the time of the conquest of space (there are various victory conditions, in reality, but let’s not quibble). In case it was announced that to have a truer representation of the Shawnee Native American civilizationFiraxis collaborated directly with them.
A game about civilizations representing different cultures
What’s strange? That someone took it as a signal of war, thinking that the developers want to make Sid Meier’s Civilization VII more inclusive. In particular, the accusation started from the user @MurcianoJapo, and then spread on various channels politically aligned against progressive policies. What did our guy write? “God no, please don’t put DEI nonsense into CIV. Don’t kill a good saga…”
Of course, many have pointed this out Civilizations have always represented many different culturesas accurately as possible, and that therefore we are talking about a series in some way inclusive by definitionbut there were others who supported the strange accusation, even threatening not to buy the game.
