The adventure of Fernando Alonso in Alpine is now coming to an end: six more GPs, the last before the end of the championship, and the Spaniard will bid farewell to Enstone’s team to marry into Aston Martin, where he will participate in the 2023 World Cup. Before this transfer, the two-time world champion could in any case, to achieve some first-tier goals, starting with a possible podium conquest in the last stages of this season.
A goal which, however, will be very complex to fulfill. This, at least, according to the same statements by Alonso, who still aims for a similar goal before ending his relationship with the French company: “I think we are in the same position that we have been in all year – Spaniard told the media – we are right behind the top three teamsso our natural position is the seventh and eighth, so we need some help from the cars in front. Sometimes there are penalties, like at Spa, and we start third on the grid, but we still finished in our position ”.
However, according to Alonso there are positive points on the current season, starting with the position in constructors ranking of the Alpine. A 4th place the result of a placement in points, his or Esteban Ocon, in all the races held so far, with the Italian exceptions of Emilia-Romagna and Monza, both closed with a ‘zero’: “I think that we are in a positive phase – he added – we have found a certain consistency, even if the last few races have not been entirely without problems for us. One of these was Barcelona; we changed the engine and started last, without forgetting Austria, where the car didn’t start in the sprint race and we started last on Sunday. Therefore, we still have to improve a few things to have completely clean weekends and, if we do, probably we will finish in the points in the next races“.
