The international newspaper Financial Times, the Canadian television and radio broadcasting corporation CBC, as well as the American television channels CBS and ABC News announced on March 4 the suspension of their work in Russia.
It is noted that such a decision was made due to the new law on the introduction of criminal liability for the dissemination of false data in relation to the Armed Forces (AF) of the Russian Federation, which Russian President Vladimir Putin signed earlier on Friday.
“The CBC is very concerned about a new law passed in Russia that appears to criminalize independent reporting on the current situation in Ukraine and Russia. In light of this situation, and fearing the risk to our journalists and staff in Russia, we are temporarily suspending our reporting from Russia until the provisions of this law are clarified,” the Canadian corporation said in a statement.
For the same reason, the decision to stop working in Russia was made by American television companies. So noted that the editors of ABC and CBS “monitor the conditions for our team in the country, taking into account the law adopted today on media.”
Earlier in the day, CNN and Bloomberg temporarily stopped their activities in Russia.

In addition, on Friday it became known about the restriction of access to the website of the Meduza publication (recognized in Russia as a foreign media agent). Artem Metelev, head of the State Duma Committee on Youth Policy, asked Roskomnadzor to block access to the publication.
The day before, it was reported that the Dozhd TV channel (recognized as a foreign media agent in Russia) suspended its work. On the same day, the board of directors of the Ekho Moskvy radio station decided to liquidate the radio channel and website. On March 1, Roskomnadzor restricted access to these resources at the request of the Prosecutor General’s Office in connection with the “targeted placement on a systematic basis of information materials containing false information regarding the essence of a special military operation on the territory of Ukraine.”
On February 26, the Russian Ministry of Defense announced that as the Russian Armed Forces successfully carry out the operation to protect Donbass, an increase in the number of fakes was noted.
