Manhattan Attorney General Alvin Bragg, who handled the case, said in a tweet that the Trump Organization had been found guilty “on all counts.”
“It’s a case of greed and fraud,” Bragg continued. “No Manhattan corporation is above the law.”
He added that “Trump Corporation” and “Trump Bayroll Corporation” have pursued a plan for 13 years that “gave high-level executives generous privileges and compensation, while deliberately hiding the benefits from the tax authorities to avoid paying taxes.”
“The decision holds these Trump corporations accountable for their long-standing criminal scheme,” he added.
Trump’s company faces a fine of about $ 1.5 million, which is a small amount for the real estate mogul, but it may damage his reputation, especially his efforts to return to the presidency in 2024.
what happened?
• The Trump Organization and “Trump Pyrol Corp” were convicted of following a scheme of fraud and tax evasion over a period of 13 years, by falsifying its commercial records.
• Members of the jury approved the Public Prosecution’s position regarding the fact that the Trump Organization, which is currently run by two of the sons of the former president, Donald Jr. and Eric, concealed the effect of compensation paid to its senior executives between 2005 and 2021.
• Chief Financial Officer Alan Weisselberg has previously pleaded guilty to 15 counts of tax fraud against him and testified against his former company as part of a court settlement to reduce his sentence.
Wesselberg, 75, is an old friend of the Trump family, and admitted that he planned with the company to receive unauthorized benefits such as exemption from paying the rent of an apartment in Manhattan, luxury cars for him and his wife, and tuition fees for his grandchildren.
• Under the judicial settlement agreement, Weisselberg agreed to pay fines and penalties of nearly two million dollars and go to prison for 5 months, in exchange for testimony in the trial, which began in October.
• The case did not include any reference to Trump by name, knowing that the former president had described the charges against his organization as a “campaign of persecution”.
