Millions of residents were quarantined in China on Wednesday due to the resurgence of the Covid-19 epidemic, which has raised fears, especially in Shanghai, of a return to restrictions, a month after ending a long and exhausting isolation.
And the Chinese Ministry of Health reported about 300 new infections with the Corona virus nationwide on Wednesday.
The main affected area is Anhui Province (east), where 1.7 million people in two rural provinces are currently under quarantine.
But since Sunday, Shanghai has recorded injuries, as tests were required to detect injuries in most regions.
About 1,400 kilometers away, the large city of Xi’an (north) has re-imposed “temporary control measures” after detecting a focus of the omicron mutator, according to local health authorities.
This historic city of 13 million people underwent a month-long closure at the end of last year. Surveillance has been imposed there since Saturday, after 29 injuries were recorded, most of them among waste recycling workers.
China is implementing a “zero Covid” strategy in confronting the epidemic. This health policy provides for conducting extensive examinations and imposing a mandatory quarantine in the event that tests prove the presence of infections, and isolating the injured.
