It will host interventions in ophthalmology, dermatology, general surgery and other specialties for some 800 patients a year
The Ministry of Health is going to invest up to 700,000 euros to improve different services in health area number IX, according to the counselor Juan José Pedreño on Monday during a visit he made to this hospital center and in which he announced the creation of a new ambulatory surgery operating room that will expand the center’s surgical capacity by 15%. The new facility will free up operating room time in the main surgical block, leading to a reduction in surgery waiting lists.
After the completion of the works, the new operating room will allow operations in ophthalmology, dermatology, general surgery and other specialties to be performed on some 800 patients a year. This project has a budget item close to 357,000 euros. Currently, the work is in tender and the deadline to present offers ends on September 16.
Rehabilitation Service
In addition, in Radiology it is planned to install a new 128-slice CT scan, which will involve an investment of more than 247,000 euros. As for the Rehabilitation Service, a new shock wave apparatus and pressotherapy equipment were recently incorporated; both have involved an investment of more than 30,000 euros and, according to the counselor, contribute to the improvement of Rehabilitation services for users of the IX Health area, to which the municipalities of Cieza, Blanca and Abarán belong.
The new pressotherapy machine incorporates access for treatment of delicate areas such as the chest, which contributes to the treatment of those patients, mostly women, who have lymphedema. With this new equipment it is expected to provide more than 300 annual treatment sessions.
On the other hand, piezoelectric focal shock waves are used for the regeneration of diseased or injured tissues and are applied, for example, in pseudoarthrosis, fracture consolidation delays and chronic tendinopathies, among others. It is expected that about 1,100 shock wave treatments can be administered annually.
Another of the improvements introduced in the hospital are the new women’s changing rooms for the staff, which were completely renovated this year, with an investment of 48,350 euros. The adaptation works allowed for a more comfortable and functional space, since the previous changing rooms had become small and very outdated.
