A new breakdown at the Madrid-Puerta de Atocha station is causing delays of more than half an hour in the high-speed train circulations that link the capital with Barcelona, Andalusia and the Levant. The incident takes place just 24 hours after an empty train derailed and overturned in the tunnel that connects this terminal with Chamartín, forcing multiple services to be suppressed and others to be redirected to Atocha, which is now experiencing new chaos due to this incident.
The condition caused this Sunday afternoon has its origin in a switch change that serves most of the tracks of the only station available to reach Madrid from the east and south of Spain. Specifically, a problem with the needle that serves nine roads, between 7 and 15, is causing significant delays by limiting traffic to the remaining ones.
