The mayor of San Fernando (Cádiz), Patricia Cavada, has announced that the Government will take the new agreement signed next Friday with the heirs of José Monje Cruz, Camarón de la Isla, in which issues such as being able to sell official merchandising in its museum, organize concerts using its brand or even formation linked to its figure and art are incorporated.
This new agreement will facilitate the use of ‘Camarón de la Isla’ and ‘Camarón’ brands, and will cover development in the city of new and diverse cultural, tourist, training activities and events linked to the shrimp figure to continue promoting its legacy, as the City Council of San Fernando has pointed out in a note.
Cavada has highlighted the importance of this agreement to “further strengthen the ties between the city and the memory of Camarón de la Isla”, as well as to “enhance the cultural and tourist attraction of San Fernando at national and international level.”
As recalled, the agreement that was signed in 2014 only allowed the deposit and exhibition of the singer’s legacy in the museum, a document that for the local government “fell very short” and “did not approach the needs of the city or the potential of the shrimp figure.”
Now, initiatives such as flamenco awards linked to the figure of the island artist can be promoted, which has already been working “for years” with entities and associations of authors, festivals.
The new agreement will incorporate tourist partners and investors
This new agreement will incorporate “novelties and improvements” in the management and projection of the Camarón de la Isla museum space as a engine of tourist attraction, in addition to responding to one of the main demands of visitors, such as the sale of official products of the artist.
In addition, with this new agreement you can incorporate tourist partners and investors, make the awards and open a store in which to sell official shrimp merchandising.
Next Tuesday an extraordinary information commission will be held that will allow to carry and approve the new agreement in the plenary of this month.
The mayor explained that during these years there have been “many” tour operators, investors and event organizers who have wanted to work with the City Council around the Camarón brand and that, however, until the approval of the new agreement “we were limited to just exposing and guarding part of their material legacy.”
The City Council, as indicated, “is open” to study the different offers from investment groups for this space and consider the possibility of joint exploitation of the Legend Camarón Center, or directly through a third party, provided that it allows “to a higher level” the museum space.
