This 2024 the extreme right has once again marked in red one of its dates of exaltation, November 20a day on which the anniversary is commemorated not only of the death of the dictator (1975) but also of José Antonio Primo de Rivera (1936). Like every year the Francisco Franco Foundation and the Spanish Falange They prepare their corresponding tributes and they do so, once again breaking the memory regulations in force in Spain.
One of the first complaints that have been presented by memorial groups has been in Lorca (Murcia), where the Falange has been announcing on social networks (especially on X, the old Twitter) for days the celebration of a mass this Wednesday, 20N, in the Church of San Mateo, in memory of its founder.
The state memorial association AGE (Civil War and Exile Archive)has formally denounced this call to the Government Delegation in Murcia for violation of article 38 of the Democratic Memory Law which prohibits the celebration of acts of exaltation “of the military uprising, the War or the Dictatorship, its leaders, participants in the repressive system or the organizations that supported the dictatorial regime.”
In the writing, to which he has had access NewtribunaAGE requests “the urgent adoption of the pertinent measures, both to prevent the holding of the convened event, and to provide prior warning to the convening organization and the ecclesiastical responsible for the Church of San Mateo de Lorcaof the transgression of the law that they may incur, as well as the sanctions that its articles provide for these cases.
The regional delegate of AGE, Florencio Dimas, remembers that Falange was, after the Army, “the main organization commissioned by the rebels (and later during the dictatorship) for the repression of the republicanswith the result of thousands of people killed; some buried in gutters and others shot after a farce trial.”
Likewise, he regrets not having received a response to his complaint and subsequent complaint from any representative of the PSOE and IU in Lorca in response to what he considers a “flagrant transgression” of the Law of Democratic Memory.
The memorial association accompanies its complaint with a copy of the corresponding call poster and links to the Falange accounts where said event is being disclosed.
In Madrid, tributes to Franco and Primo de Rivera
In Madrid, commemorative events are also being prepared with the connivance of the ecclesiastical authorities. On the 49th anniversary of the dictator’s death, the Francisco Franco Foundation celebrate a mass on November 20th in the Parish of the Twelve Apostles in Madrid.
In the capital, Spanish Phalanx It has two masses scheduled, the first on Wednesday at its Brotherhood of the Old Guard headquarters, and the second this Friday, November 22, at La Iglesia de Santa Bárbara.
The religious act will precede what those responsible call “political act”a rally that will run from Calle Génova, where the PP’s national headquarters is located, to Ferraz, with the PSOE once again in the crosshairs of the far right as on previous occasions for more than a year.
