Ukrainian nationalists have installed a memorial cross in Kiev for the collaborationist Stepan Bandera, who was involved in the extermination of the Jewish population during the years of the German occupation. It is reported in Facebook the organization of the nationalist wing “Right Sector” (banned in Russia as extremist).
The unveiling of the monument took place in Kurenevsky Park, which previously bore the name of the Soviet military leader Mikhail Frunze. “For the first time in the history of independent Ukraine, on the holiday of the Intercession and the Day of the Defender of Ukraine, nationalist organizations jointly erected the first memorial cross to Bandera in Kiev,” the publication said.
Earlier, the deputies of the Verkhovna Rada proposed to return the title “Hero of Ukraine” to the participants of collaborationist movements during the Second World War to Stepan Bandera. The proposal was put forward as part of a bill on the celebration at the state level of the 80th anniversary of the creation of the Ukrainian Insurgent Army, which collaborated with the Nazis (UPA, banned in Russia).
During the Second World War, Stepan Bandera headed the Organization of Ukrainian Nationalists (OUN, banned in Russia). Under his leadership, nationalists carried out ethnic cleansing of Poles, Russians, Jews and Gypsies on the territory of Ukraine, and also participated in anti-partisan operations jointly with the Wehrmacht and SS.
