The Civil Guard, within the framework of operation “Vexatus”, has arrested a person in the province of Huesca as the alleged perpetrator of 19 crimes of harassment, eight crimes of discovery and disclosure of secrets, three crimes of threats and coercion and one hate crime.
The investigation began at the beginning of the year when several people reported that they had received denigrating and threatening messages from hidden profiles.
Continuing with the investigations, the agents were able to verify that the alleged perpetrator hid his identity by creating false profiles on different social media and free messaging applications.
Subsequently, he used private photographs of the victims themselves and harassed them with messages, threatening and coercing them, making telephone calls and mass mailings of a sexual nature, with the aim of altering the normal development of the victims’ lives.
The detainee chose his victims based on their place of residence and their membership in the same social circle. In addition, it has been proven that some of the victims were harassed for more than a year.
To harass the victims, he used up to 14 fake profiles on different social networks, five fake accounts on instant messaging applications and four different phone numbers with data stolen from third parties, making calls through hidden numbers with at least two devices. different and using a virtual private network, encrypting their data and masking any trace that would give them away.
Once the agents carried out the analysis of more than 6,000 telephone calls and numerous messages, the author was arrested and a home in the town of Fraga was searched, where several devices were intercepted. The operation has been carried out by the Huesca Team and directed by the Court of Instruction No. 2 of Fraga.
