A man stabs his 11-year-old son in Barcelona in a possible case of vicarious violence

The Mossos d’Esquadra have arrested a 35-year-old man accused of attacking his 11-year-old son with a knife last morning, who suffered serious injuries, in an apartment in the Font d’en Fargues neighborhood, in the Barcelona district of Horta, in which it is being investigated whether it could be a case of vicarious violence.

According to El Periódico de Catalunya, and police sources have confirmed to EFE, after the attack, the man jumped off the balcony, which caused him several injuries, which were not serious. According to the mother’s story to El Periódico, the man tried to attack her and the boy wanted to defend her and ended up being attacked.

The attack occurred in an apartment in the Horta district around 3:15 a.m., when the residents of the property called the Mossos d’Esquadra to report that they heard screams coming from one of the homes in the building.

When the agents went to the property, they found that a man had attacked his 11-year-old son, stabbing him several times with a knife. The child has been transferred in serious condition to the Vall d’Hebron hospital in Barcelona, where he remains stable, according to health sources.

The child’s father jumped off the balcony of the house after the attack, a fall that did not cause serious injuries, although he was taken to a health center under police custody after being detained.

The Mossos d’Esquadra keep all hypotheses open in relation to the attack and are investigating whether it could be a case of vicarious violence, in which the detainee would seek to harm the minor’s mother by attacking her son. However, police sources point out that it is premature to move forward if the attack is framed in vicarious violence, pending knowing the circumstances of the attack and interrogating the detainee and the victims.
