The National Police has arrested this Sunday in Elda (Alicante) a man accused of assaulting his wife and son and spraying them with gasoline with the intention of setting them on fire. According to police sources, he first attacked his wife with a horse riding crop; when her son, a minor, tried to protect her, he attacked her from behind with a knife.
The man has been arrested for the crimes of serious injuries, mistreatment in the family and attempted homicide, after a distress call has alerted the National Police, according to police sources.
Upon arrival at the scene, the agents had to forcefully access the home, inside which they found the man altered, stained with blood and with a lighter in his pocket. Their son, a minor, had a bleeding wound on his back, after his father apparently attacked him when he was trying to protect his mother, whom he had attacked with a riding crop. .
In addition, both had been doused with gasoline all over their bodies, with the intention of setting them on fire, according to the same sources. Once the facts have been verified and the testimonies of the victims have been heard, the alleged perpetrator has been arrested and the injured woman and son have been treated, while another of the daughters, who has been a witness to the events, has been treated.
The medical services have taken care of the injured, who have been transferred to the hospital, although thanks to the rapid police intervention they are under observation out of danger. The UFAM group from the Elda National Police Station has taken charge of the investigation, to clarify everything that happened and inform the judicial authority.
