Video footage showed the collapse of the huge plant, which is 64 meters long.
The bombing took place in Redkar, in Yorkshire, north-east England, on Saturday.
And used in the bombing 1.6 tons of explosives, according to the British newspaper “The Guardian”.
The person who pressed the detonation button, the mayor of Radkar’s border, was called Ben Hoshin, in front of a crowd of detonators.
“Every demolition of a former steel factory on the site is a sweet and bitter moment, because it has played a huge role in shaping our communities, our people and our identity for decades,” Hoshin said.
He continued, “While we remember our past, we should not ignore a valuable reason for this (the demolition of the factory),” noting that he made a promise to build a better future for the residents.
He talked about the construction of new projects in the place, such as a plant for the production and storage of energy.
This is the largest demolition in Britain using explosives in nearly 75 years.
The steel plant in Redkar closed in 2015, after it had been open for nearly 98 years, during which time it supplied steel to many projects such as the Sydney Bridge in Australia.
Production at the factory was halted in the same month that saw hopes of buying it again evaporated.
