Tomorrow, Friday, a huge asteroid will pass by the globe in an interesting way due to its size of 1.8 km, but it is not on a collision course with our planet, according to the Jeddah Astronomical Society.
The association said that the asteroid will pass at a speed of 75,961 kilometers per hour (20 times faster than a fast bullet), from a distance of about 4 million kilometers, or 10 times the average distance between Earth and the Moon.
The association explained that despite this, it was classified as potentially dangerous, given the size of this asteroid and its relative proximity to Earth, which means that it could cause serious damage to our planet, if it was on a collision course.
The asteroid is called 7335 (1989 JA), which is striking because of its size, and according to the US space agency “NASA”, it is the largest asteroid that will approach Earth this year, and it will not approach again until June 23, 2055, when it passes from a further distance of this approach, within the limits of 70 times the distance between the Earth and the Moon, and it is classified among the near-Earth objects, which includes more than 29,000 objects that NASA tracks each year.
What is meant by near-Earth objects, that is, an astronomical body that passes within 48 million kilometers of Earth’s orbit, and the majority of these objects are very small, but this asteroid 7335 (1989 JA) is larger than about 99% of the near-Earth objects that NASA monitors.
