[Rassegna] – The second-hand market in Italy could receive a positive boost from the new incentive season, which effectively reward a conservative choice of up to 2000 euros for those who choose, for example, a second-hand electric. But regardless of this, after the first half of the year, 2021 net sales almost reached those of 2019, before Covid. A good way to go considering that the new ones, on the other hand, are still in rather difficulty and need even more bonuses to convince motorists to go around the dealerships.
“In reality, things are going even better. The changes of ownership must be purified of km0, which are not used and which are now much lower than two years ago. Thus, the used cars purchased this year remain just over a million and a half, 20,000 more than in 2019, when the zero km were over 80,000. If the used volumes are good, the values are even better. From the InterAutoNews DataCenter, we learn that in 2021 the average value of used stock at dealerships increased by 15% compared to the prices of 2019, reaching 9,700 euros against 8,400 two years ago, a figure that was the average of previous years. These cars, entering the market a year later, carry over a devaluation. If despite this the average value is much higher, it means that we are in the presence of a real race to grab a used one. It should be remembered that in the used car market, price is an important indicator of the strength of demand. Since all the cars that are offered are then bought, it is precisely the price that brings the seller and the buyer together: if it increases, it means that the demand is higher than the offer.“, Writes Il Sole 24 Ore.

Surely the used car market is tempting in this period of economic uncertainty, with Covid that has never really gone away. In particular, the most recent cars offer technology and safety already at a good level compared to cars that are over 15 years of age, and the issue of emissions is not exactly the focus of those who go to get estimates.. Therefore the position of the buyers is perfectly understandable. There is a lot of curiosity about the impact of used car incentives: if the goal of rejuvenating the car fleet were to be achieved, then the environment could also indirectly have a benefit.
