On Friday 26 August, the Audi has formalized its entry into Formula 1 starting from the 2026 season. The new generation of power units designed by the premier category of motoring has in fact convinced the German brand, ready to appear on the starting grid in four years. The project has not been revealed in detail, but it is common opinion that it will gradually bind to Sauber, until it takes over 75% of the Swiss team, leaving 25% to the current owner Finn Rausing. In the meeting with journalists in the paddock of the Belgian Grand Prix, Audi CEO Markus Duesmann spoke as follows: “We have not yet decided on the team and therefore we have not made any decisions regarding the drivers. I hope we will have a German rider and I hope there will be a German GP. This is all I can say ”.
With Sebastian Vettel hanging up his helmet and Nico Hulkenberg no longer full-time in F1 since 2019, the main suspect could therefore be Mick Schumacher. But even the German at the moment does not have an insured seat for 2023 – between the Haas that previews the renewal and the rumors that he would like him on the Alpine list – and therefore Germany for next season would not only risk not having a race. on the calendar, but also no rider at the start of the world championship. In any case, Mick Schumacher, questioned by the Bildit seemed possible for the future: “It would be nice. But we will see by that date other German pilots will arrive“. Currently, Germany can count on Zendeli, Beckmann and David Schumacher in the minor formulas, a trio that at the moment does not seem to have the speed and the palmares to land in Formula 1.
