The staff at the Madrid-Barajas airport have been forced to divert up to 21 flights this Wednesday afternoon after a sighting of drones on two of the runways, which has led to the activation of the security procedure due to the presence of these aircraft in the area.
According to Aena, the airport is operating normally, although with delays after landings and takeoffs were suspended following the activation of the protocol by the State Security Forces and Bodies once the drones were sighted.
The air traffic controllers themselves reported on social media at around 7:15 p.m. the presence of a drone in the vicinity of the Barajas airport.
In total, 21 flights of the 1,034 scheduled for this Wednesday have been diverted and air traffic to and from Barajas has begun to recover shortly before 8:00 p.m.
