When you are faced with a new pimple on your face, you are faced with a dilemma: remove it or not pop it? But when it comes to grains located in the so-called ‘triangle of death’it’s best to leave them and let them heal on their own, experts say.
Also known as the ‘danger triangle’, this area extends from the base of the nose to a point on each side of the lips, approximately where dimples usually appear.
Mark Stromis a dermatologist based in New York, and in statements to the Daily Mail explains: “Popping pimples in the center of your face can be particularly dangerous.”
The reason is clear: “The area of the face from the bridge of the nose to the corners of the mouth has veins that they connect directly to the brain through a blood vessel called the cavernous sinus.
The introduction of bacteria from the fingers to the veins that run behind the eye sockets could cause germs to travel to the brain. This could put pressure on the brain and cause partial or complete paralysis and, in some cases, even death.
If left untreated, a sinus infection can also cause complete loss of vision, brain abscesses and meningitis. In the worst case, if inflammation from one spot spreads to the inner part of the brain, there is a risk of blindness and a massive stroke. The condition, known to medical professionals as cavernous sinus thrombosis, kills 30 percent of those who contract it.
