A Deflagration at the Rheinmetall Expal Munitions factorydedicated to ammunition and explosives, in the Murcian district of Javalí Viejo has left at least six injured, one of them serious.
According to ‘La Verdad’the incident occurred around 16.20, when for reasons to be determined there was a great deflagration. The emergency services went to the place and could control the fire that affected the 2,000 meters of scrubland and stubble around the headquarters of the German company.
There are at least six injured for burns and inhalation of smoke, one of which is serious. Two of them were transferred to Morales Meseguer and three others to the Virgen de la Arrixaca. Of them, one is seriously injured.
It is the second accident that occurs in this factory in just one year. In January 2024, practically on the same dates (it was on the 20th), there was a fire caused by chemicals that had not been stored correctly. Two people ended with serious burns.
Key in the Armament Industry
The headquarters of Murcia is only one of those that Rheinmetall has, one of the main weapons manufacturers of the powerful German industry. The Lynx tanks that are fighting in the Ukraine War come out of their factories.
In the summer of 2023 they made Expal System, a Spanish subsidiary specialized in Maxamcorp ammunition, which had, among other venues in Spain, that of Javalí Viejo in Murcia.
