Investigators opened a criminal case on the derailment of freight cars near Tula, where one person died. This was announced on Sunday, July 17, in Telegram channel Western Interregional Investigation Department for Transport of the Investigative Committee of Russia.
The case was initiated under Part 2 of Art. 263 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (“Violation of the rules of traffic safety and operation of railway transport, resulting in the death of a person through negligence”).
“The element of the cargo, hitting the wheelset, led to the derailment of the rolling stock,” the message says.
The investigation established that on July 16, at the Uzlovaya-3-Zhdanka section of the Moscow Railway, 12 wagons of a freight train derailed, following the route Uzlovaya 1-Yelets.
It is noted that a native of the Tula region, who was involved in the illegal possession of the transported cargo, died.
Investigators continue to collect and consolidate evidence in the criminal case.
Earlier that day, it was reported that 12 wagons had derailed in the Tula region. The message said that because of the incident, the movement of trains was temporarily suspended, several of them were delayed. To resolve the situation, the railroad sent a recovery train from the Uzlovaya station.
On the same day, carriages with gas condensate derailed at the Protoka station in the Krasnodar Territory. The press service noted that the situation did not affect the movement of trains through the station.
