Irish MMA fighter Conor McGregor has been sentenced to pay around 250,000 euros for damages to the woman who accused him of sexually assaulting her in Dublin last 2018, Reuters reports.
The jury, made up of eight women and four men, reached its verdict after six hours and 10 minutes of deliberation.
Plaintiff Nikita Hand alleged that McGregor He sexually assaulted her on December 9, 2018and that another man, James Lawrence, did the same, Ireland’s highest court has examined during two weeks of evidence.
For his part, McGregor has denied these accusations and has stated that he had “completely consensual sex” with Hand. Likewise, he has stated that he did not cause any injuries to the plaintiff.
Hand’s defense has told the judge that when she was referred to a sexual assault treatment unit the day after the alleged assault, a doctor was so worried who ordered photographs to be taken of his injuries.
As the plaintiff explained, she and a friend met up with McGregor, whom she knew, after a Christmas work party. Thus, he added that McGregor took them to a party in an attic room of a hotel in south Dublin, where alcohol and drugs were consumed.
She also added that McGregor took her to one of the bedrooms and sexually abused her. Hand’s attorney, John Gordon, has stated that the plaintiff had taken antidepressants and drugs at the time of the events.
