An international congress will commemorate next March the 150th anniversary of the composer and conductor Bartolomé Pérez Casas, author of the harmonization of the Spanish national anthem. The vice mayor, Francisco Morales, and the conductor Antonio Manzanera, presented the event on Tuesday, the same day as the birthday of Pérez Casas, who was born in Lorca on January 24, 1873.
They announced that the congress will have the motto ‘The anthem of a country’ and will include concerts, communications, presentations, exhibitions, historical routes about his figure and the places he frequented, documentaries and the publication of a book.
The musician from Lorca was the first chief conductor of the Spanish National Orchestra, founder of the Madrid Symphony, Professor of Harmony at the Madrid Conservatory and is the author of the suite ‘A mi tierra’.
