Surely next week, when the Dakar route that starts on January 3 (and ends on January 15) is presented in full, we will have more information about the category that will be released in the next edition: the Dakar Classic. For now, it is known that cars and trucks that raced in the desert before 2000 will participate in it, that it will take a route parallel to that of normal competition … and that there will be two 100% Spanish Mercedes G 320, which the RUMBOZERO team will take to Saudi Arabia.
This week they presented the project in the Jarama in which they have done “a very hard job to prepare the two machines” and have them ready in time for them to travel on December 1 from Marseille to the Arab desert. The G-Class they have chosen, and which will be driven by Antonio Gutiérrez and Carlos Vento, is no stranger to the glory of the Dakar, since Jackie Icks won in 1983 with one of them. Suspension and reliability are the two points on which they have focused their work most on both cars to ensure a good ride through the dunes.
“It is a very robust car, which is what we need in this Dakar: robustness and reliability so that we do not have to be thinking about the vehicle but about the times, the regularity, the terrain, the dunes … This car is magnificent for this and we are fully confident in the reliability of the G-Class “, says Luis Heras, one of the co-drivers in the formation (the other is Juan Carlos Ramírez). This 2020, the RUMBOZERO team celebrates its 25th anniversary in competition, and they will begin the next year of their history with one they will not forget.
