The little boy, although he was evacuated to a hospital, presented injuries incompatible with life
An 8-year-old boy who fell on Sunday into a well about 6 meters deep in a rural area of Carmo do Paranaíba, a small city in the Brazilian state of Minas Gerais (southeast), died this Monday after spending 18 hours trapped in the hole and despite having been extracted by firefighters.
The minor, identified as Pedro Augusto Ferreira Alves, was rescued alive and managed to receive first aid at the scene of the accident, but did not resist and died shortly after being transferred to a hospital, reported the Fire Department of Minas Gerais.
“At the time we removed him from the well, the boy was already suffering from a decreased level of consciousness and cardiorespiratory arrest,” explained the commander of the rescue operation, firefighters Lieutenant Colonel Thiago Lacerda Duarte.
“Despite the fact that we had a medical team available at the accident site and an ambulance, which took him to the hospital, unfortunately he died,” added Duarte, who led the rescue operation for several hours after an accident that caused a stir in Minas Gerais. .
According to his relatives, the boy was playing with other minors on Sunday afternoon and accidentally fell into the hole of a construction site in an old garbage dump near his residence.
Firefighters were called immediately and rescue work began on Sunday afternoon, when some 20 rescuers were mobilized, but they had to overcome several difficulties in their efforts to lift the boy, including the fear that a landslide could bury him. .
The rescue was only possible thanks to the parallel hole dug by firefighters to precisely avoid landslides in the main hole.
