Podium confirmed
Mandalika Sunday ended with a smile of happiness for Pedro Acostaafter the phenomenal rookie of wonders had had to spend two hours of anxiety and waiting to understand whether the second place he had obtained on the track was confirmed or not after the investigation regarding the pressure of his front tire. Usually when there is an investigation involving tire pressure the sentence is written and a 16 second penalty is imposed, but this – fortunately for the Spaniard from KTM – was not the case.
The ‘ancient’ methods
In fact, the GasGas team managed to demonstrate that the alleged drop in pressure recorded by the sensor on the tire was not due to their infringement of the regulation but to a damage to the rim and the tire itself. The curious thing, however, was the extremely empirical way in which the technicians of Acosta’s team demonstrated the problem that occurred on the Shark’s bike.
As told on the Spanish site AS from my colleague Mela Chércoles the mechanics placed the front wheel used by Acosta in the race in a huge container filled with water which visually confirmed that the tire was defective: from this in fact air bubbles continued to escape due to the damage it had suffered. In this way the second place of #31 was confirmed. In an increasingly technological world of motorsport, proof that the ‘old ways’ can still come in handy from time to time.
