A little girl dies suddenly in a baby park: an investigation has been opened but there is talk of SIDS
A tragedy occurred today in a baby park in Borgo San Dalmazzo, where a 7-month-old girl died suddenly. Two 118 ambulances and the police intervened on the scene, while the little girl's family, immediately informed of the tragedy, is in shock. In the meantime, the location of the incident is collaborating with the authorities to provide all the necessary information on the circumstances of the sad episode.
The first hypotheses on the causes of death point towards cot death syndrome SDIS, a syndrome that affects newborns without any warning and without any obvious signs of organic malfunctions. When this pathology occurs it is a devastating and often inexplicable event that leaves families completely shocked.
There sudden infant death (SIDS), is the sudden death of a newborn without an apparent cause during sleep. This frightening and unpredictable event can happen to healthy children who appear to have no health problems.
The exact causes of SIDS are not fully known, but some risk factors include poor sleeping position such as sleeping on the stomach, tobacco smoking during pregnancy, exposure to second-hand smoke after birth, overcrowding of the crib, too high room temperature and other environmental factors .
It is important to take some preventive measures to reduce the risk of causing these deaths, such as making the baby sleep on his back, avoiding excessive overcrowding of the cot, maintaining a safe room temperature and not exposing the baby to tobacco smoke. In Italy, there are no precise national data on the incidence of sudden infant death syndrome (SIDS) due to the lack of a uniform detection system.
However, in the past it has been estimated at around 1-1.5‰ of live births, but is currently in decline due to the focus on having newborns sleep in the supine position. It is estimated that there are around 250 new cases of SIDS per year in Italy. Most cases occur between 2 and 4 months of age, especially in winter, with rare exceptions after 6 months. In the first month of life we talk about SUEND (sudden unexpected death of the newborn).
The community of Borgo San Dalmazzo rallies around the little girl's family in this moment of great pain, offering its support and condolences.
